I am grateful to a large number of people for the honor and prestige of receiving the 2023 President Lo Chia-luen Outstanding Youth Researcher Award, and for the encouragement of the University, Professor Emeritus Jiu-Hwa Lo Upshur, and the Selection Committee. The naming of the award after an esteemed scholar that was a pioneer in leading the May Fourth Movement, who was also a past President of the University, is in and of itself a great honor and urges me to continue my work at the highest academic standards. My broad research interest revolves around global energy topics, in particular carbon capture using membrane or adsorbent-based techniques, as well as catalytic reactions and battery material discovery. Using both experimental and computational methods, we are able to uncover properties and mechanisms in these areas that can lead to novel material design that help to reduce the impact of human activities on the environment. Ever since my arrival at National Central University, my colleagues, Department, College, and the University have been supportive of my research and my career, allowing me to develop and deepen my expertise. I have had the fortunate opportunity to work with talented students whose progress have fueled the success of our research group and continue to enjoy working with young researchers as they come and go through the university. In the short time that I have been at NCU, I have also collaborated with leading research teams in Taiwan and overseas, including academia-industry collaboration projects to share our experimental and computational knowledge, and representing Taiwan and NCU in dialogue with overseas institutes and companies regarding the state of carbon capture, utilization, and storage topics. Of course, none of this would be possible without the support of my loving family, including my beloved wife Sara and two sons Warren and Arthur.
